Transfer Window Roundup

So after 3 months of tedious rumours, all of the premier league's managers have filled the gaps that they feel need filling in their squads until the window next opens up in January. André Villas-Boas has added six players to the team, spending just over £70m in the process. Im going to rate each signing based on their price, current ability, potential ability and value to the team.

Thibaut Courtois
Position: Goalkeeper
Age: 19
Fee: £7.9m
Former Club: Genk
Where He Will Fit Into The Squad: A long term successor to Petr Cech
Fresh after winning the Belgian league with Genk, Courtois made his move to Chelsea early in the summer after a fee was agreed on the 16th July. Courtois knew immediately he arrived at Chelsea that Petr Cech was the established first choice at the club and it would take at least three years before he could surpass him as the main man at Stamford Bridge. Blessed with great reflexes, aerial ability and positioning, he looks to be a great prospect for the future. The fee paid for him was a small price for a keeper with such promise, and you only have to look at his predecessor at Atletico Madrid, David De Gea, to see how much teams will pay for young, promising goalkeepers.
Current Ability: 5/10
Potential Ability: 8/10
Value For Money: 9/10
Average: 7.3/10

Oriol Romeu
Position: Defensive Midfielder
Age: 19
Fee: £4.35m
Former Club: Barcelona
Where He Will Fit Into The Squad: Backup to Jon Obi Mikel with potential to start in the future
After signing for Barca in 2004, Romeu progressed through the famous Catelonian academy like many former greats of the game. A traditional defensive midfielder who breaks up the game well, but has more attacking impetus than Mikel, and more forward passes will be seen from Romeu rather than Mikel's traditional backwards and sideways game. The main problem with the transfer is the buy back clauses, €10m at the end of this season or €15m at the end of the next season, and if Romeu gets enough game time to develop in these two seasons, we could just see him go back to Barca for a fraction of his real value.
Current Ability: 5/10
Potential Ability: 8/10
Value For Money: 5/10 (Buy back clauses included)
Average: 6/10

Romelu Lukaku
Position: Striker
Age: 18
Fee: £18m
Former Club: Anderlecht
Where He Will Fit Into The Squad: Long term replacement for Didier Drogba, with potential to start games this season.
As a long term admirer of Chelsea, it was no surprise that when the Blues became interested, Lukaku was delighted to go to London and make the transfer of his dreams. A prodigious talent, well known throughout Europe, he had many admirers this summer, including Real Madrid, Arsenal and Tottenham. After two years putting defences in the Belgian league to sword as a teenager, Lukaku has come to develop and prove himself on the biggest stage, and could develop into a Chelsea legend.
Current Ability: 6/10
Potential Ability: 9/10
Value For Money: 7/10
Average: 7.3/10

Juan Mata
Position: Winger/Attacking Midfielder
Age: 23
Fee: £23.5m
Former Club: Valencia
Where He Will Fit Into The Squad: Injecting some much needed pace on the wing, or creativity in midfield
A transfer that many Chelsea fans wouldn't have seen at the beginning of the summer. With both Arsenal and Tottenham interested but not meeting Valencia's asking price, Chelsea managed to steal in to grab the player, with Fernando Torres playing a key role in persuading him to join the Blues. A leading light for Spain in the European Under-21's victory this summer, Mata creates a lot of goals for his team mates, using pace, ball control and a brilliant left foot. The pick of the summer signings in my opinion.
Current Ability: 8/10
Potential Ability: 9/10
Value For Money: 7/10
Average: 8/10

Ulises Dávila
Position: Attacking Midfielder/Striker
Age: 20
Fee: £1.75m
Former Club: Guadalajara
Where He Will Fit Into The Squad: Fresh legs to replace departing old stars up front
A player very much like Sergio Aguero and Wayne Rooney in the fact that he morphs between a Striker and an Attacking Midfielder, picking the ball up deep in the pitch and running at the defence causing havoc with a great armoury of long shots as well as the ability to play others in for shots at goal. Picked up from the same Mexican academy that produced Javier Hernandez, Chelsea fans will hope he has the ability to match Hernandez's impact on the premier league.
Current Ability: 5/10
Potential Ability: 8/10
Value For Money: 9/10
Average: 7.3/10

Raul Meireles
Position: Midfielder
Age: 28
Fee: £12m
Former Club: Liverpool
Where He Will Fit Into The Squad: Easing the pressure off of Lampard's shoulders and bringing added creativity to midfield.
Snapped up in the dying minutes of deadline day, Meireles isn't every Chelsea fan's cup of tea, and many don't see him as the answer to our glaring need for a midfield playmaker. Can score goals, especially on the volley, with a wide range of passing and vision, he may not be the midfielder that Chelsea fans wanted, but he will be a good first team player this year.
Current Ability: 7/10
Potential Ability: 8/10
Value For Money: 7/10
Average: 7.3/10
